But space was tight in its Playa Vista offices. The social media giant recently moved into a refurbished office minutes away from its old one at the so-called Campus development. The new Playa Vista location, which the company calls Facebook LA, is three times as big at 35,000 square feet, and with room for 200 employees, it accommodates twice the workforce.

Healthcare Design
Hospital dining should be a place of respite for patients, visitors, and employees alike, but at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, the 13,500-square-foot cafeteria was serving up a dated environment. "The cafeteria layout posed throughput issues and constraints with what we could menu,” says Susan Langill, director of food services at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. “The ceilings were low and the windows small, further contributing to the feeling of being crowded and a bit dreary." As part of a master plan to improve the patient experience, the hospital is looking to renovate the cafeteria to better incorporate evidence-based design concepts, including access to nature and daylight, and deliver healthier food choices.

In Atlanta, Georgia, German car manufacturer Porsche's headquarters now unites office, training, and driving programs under one vast complex. The "North American experience center and headquarters" brings together over 400 employees from five divisions of the company, serving as a new destination for partners, customers, and car enthusiasts. A 1.6 mile circuit has been integrated into the lower levels of the office building, while the motor-sport-related theme continues throughout the project's interiors. The track, which runs through the facility's courtyard, includes six driving modules designed to demonstrate the capabilities of different models.

Target has tapped its largest market, California, to test several potential changes to the look of its future stores. In a pilot program called "LA25," the discounter has taken its 35 top store enhancements that it has been testing across the country and put them all together in 25 stores in Los Angeles. For the Metro Atlanta Chamber, its move is all about that space, 'bout that space. No cubicles. Forty percent of the Chamber's 75-member workforce is millennials, and the move allows it to cater to the whims big companies have been embracing to attract and retain talented young folks – which includes a location with lots of amenities. “The millennials are becoming more of the workforce that we're trying to attract and retain,” says Corporate Environment's Karen Hughes, a chamber board member who also helped with the design of the office layout and furniture. "More so than any client perhaps I work with, they were very concerned about engaging their employees in the office." While the Chamber is reducing its footprint by nearly half the space at 191, Karen says it wanted the office to be open and have an "active engaging area that encourages collaboration."

Taco Bell is trying some new looks, starting with four of its restaurants in Orange County, California. But don't expect table service or a wildly revamped menu. The remodeled are to debut in the summer, each featuring one of four designs that the fast-food chain is testing for further rollout next year. These styles are a Mission Revival-esque architecture with white walls, tile and "heavy timbers," a "rustic" modern look, an "urban edge" interior, and a design dubbed California Sol that includes an expanded outdoor dining room.
