Contract Design
Set in Uruguay, architecture firm Gómez Platero has designed the first large-scale memorial to honor those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coined “World Memorial to the Pandemic,” the circular memorial is set upon the edge of a waterfront and is accessible by a long pedestrian walkway. The center of the circle appears to have been cut out, revealing the ocean below.

Martha’s Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs, Massachusetts, saw a need to expand its primary care and internal medicine services to meet the needs of its growing island community as well as the influx of seasonal visitors. The solution was to hire HED to renovate approximately 7,000 square feet in an existing building on campus, previously home to administrative offices, to create a new suite for primary care, medical, behavioral health, and outpatient services.

Interior design graduate student Hannah Thayer first began thinking of design as a career choice when she visited a women’s shelter in Kenya in 2014.
Only 17 years old at the time, she was meeting young girls and women her age who had escaped abusive homes and were starting over in a safe and comforting place. One of the girls with a toddler was only 15 years old.
