The office of the future probably won't look like something out of The Jetsons, with levitating desks and workers who communicate telepathically. But it could resemble a different fictional realm. "It's going to look a lot more like Harry Potter," says Ben Waber, the co-founder of Humanyze, a start-up that focuses on "people analytics."
What he means is that offices will appear much as they do today — only with a few magical flourishes here and there

Why universal design is not just 'access'

The term is largely attributed to the late Ronald L. Mace, former program director of The Centre for Universal Design and is said to have been coined as early as the 1980s. Even so, at least locally in Australia, there seems to be an increasing focus on universal design with several organizations attributing increasing value in it, at least principally. This has also seen substantial variation in the way these organizations interpret universal design and of course ultimately the decisions they make with a view to its application.
Hotels are showing they can be eco-friendly and successful

Legendary hotelier Barry Sternlicht and his 1 Hotels chain have been making waves recently. Not because the chain is so chic, but because it has taken the concept of going "green" to another level — designed with the specific agenda of protecting the environment. The hotel chain debuted earlier this year in Miami, with a second hotel in Manhattan opening recently. In many ways, chains like 1 Hotels are setting the trend for the new age of green in the hospitality business.

2015 IIDA Asia Pacific Design Awards deadline extended to Sept. 11

The deadline to enter the third annual IIDA Best of Asia Pacific Design Awards has been extended to Friday, Sept. 11! The Asia Pacific Design Awards honors the highest level of creativity and design excellence in Interior Design/ Interior Architecture projects throughout the Asia Pacific region. All winning projects will be published on the IIDA website and recognized at a special awards reception in December 2015 at Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong.

One of Apple's first 'next-generation' US retail store designs will debut near Memphis
Apple Insider
Early plans for the new Apple Store, located to the east of Memphis, were recently approved by the local design review commission, according to the Memphis Daily News. In his presentation, Apple representative Rick Millitello called the project "the next generation of retail store that we're rolling out," saying it would be one of the first of its kind in the United States.

Plasma Nodo fits out La Condesa restaurant in Medellín, Colombia

In the Colombian city of Medellín, local practice Plasma Nodo has completed the interior design of a new restaurant that combines dining with socialization. Named "La Condesa," the design presents a strong Mediterranean aesthetic, a theme which reflects the cuisine on offer. The cutlery, furniture choices, and color palette have all been chosen to establish a welcoming and hospitable atmosphere.
