Metropolis
The far eastern reaches of Manhattan’s Upper East Side form a Tetris grid of health care facilities, with emergency room signs and clinic entrances marking the lines of boxy metal-and-glass facades.
But on York Avenue between 68th and 69th Streets, a different kind of health care building has taken shape. From the street, the facade of the David H. Koch Center — the New York-Presbyterian ambulatory care facility, which saw its first patients at the end of April — glimmers with ribbons of fritted white glass. Inside, the lobby’s ceilings stretch over 40 feet high.

Design Milk
Earlier this year on the Clever podcast, Design Milk interviewed Chris Stulpin, Ind. IIDA, Chief Creative Officer for Tarkett, and Suzanne Tick, Ind. IIDA, of Suzanne Tick, Inc. about the concept of Neoculture, a term coined by Tarkett that refers to current cultural, societal, and attitudinal changes and how they impact architecture and interior design. Shifts like population growth, increase in ridesharing, public transportation, and renting over owning, globalization over nationalization, sustainability, and reliance on technology, all contribute to Neoculture.

Maybe you want to land a job. Maybe you just want to have some fun. Depending on your goal, you should balance out how much you want to focus on function versus form.

Interior Design
With large-scale renovation projects, briefs can be tricky — it’s not always easy to carve out a fresh new vision comprehensively complementary to existing bone structure. Such was the challenge for the revival of The Scott in Scottsdale, Arizona, a resort formally known as Firesky Resort & Spa. “We were tasked with a significant modernization makeover, yet needed to preserve the original Spanish Revival–inspired architecture,” explains Greg Bradshaw, principal at AvroKO, the architecture and interior design firm that spearheaded the 190,000-square-foot renovation project in the heart of Scottsdale’s Old Town district.

Mexico City has unveiled the Ryo Kan MX, the first ryokan concept to debut in Latin America. Located in the heart of the city’s emerging Little Tokyo neighborhood, the Japanese oasis aims to function as a restorative urban retreat.
Architect Regina Galvanduque of locally based design practice GLVDK Studio, drew inspiration from various aspects of Japanese culture when drafting the design. Evocative of origami paper folds, the façade welcomes visitors as they enter the serene property. Natural materials and textures abound throughout the interior to accent tranquil environments like an open library, a spa and a terrace appointed with four onsen, or traditional Japanese baths.

Many managers aren't aware of how pervasive the problem of workplace bullying is today. According to a study published in the British Medical Journal, one in every 20 employees faces disrespectful behavior, most often from co-workers or direct supervisors, on the job.
