Hem, a Stockholm-based independent design brand, recently opened its first retail experience in San Francisco. The pop-up shop, which is open for the duration of November, is conceptualized by designer Jonathan Olivares and draws inspiration from the city's iconic surf and skate culture. "As one of the premier global direct-to-consumer design brands, we've had our sights set on doing a pop up in San Francisco for some time. Not only is it the birthplace of brands defining our generation, but it is home to a significant portion of our customer base," said CEO and Founder Petrus Palmér.

Middleton, Wisconsin-based toymaker American Girl has launched two new in-store experiences at its New York flagship. The retail space at Rockefeller Center now features two new immersive pop-ups: Julie's Groovy World and the Doll Hospital. Design practice FRCH NELSON oversaw the design of both spaces.
"The idea is that the activation can be rotational to help educate their young fans on some of the brand's most beloved characters and offer a unique, unforgettable experience," says Robyn Novak, vice president and managing creative director of FRCH NELSON.

The speakers participated in a forum titled Ahead of the Curve. Before speaking, they walked the many show floors and viewed some 4,200 lines of furniture, bedding, lighting, flooring, accessories, and gifts that were on display across 40 floors of event space at the World Market Center.

Dallas-based design practice Wilson Associates has unveiled its design of the Niccolo Hotel Changsha in Hunan, China. Located with the Changsha IFS Tower One, the new outpost is the fourth luxury property of its kind from Wharf Hotels, a Hong Kong-based hotel management company.
Offering 241 guest rooms, including 19 spacious suites, the hotel's reception area is reminiscent of luxury retail environments wrapped in a polished style.
