Barrel of Booze Donations
The ISAE Scholarship Committee is collecting donations of "good quality" liquor, wine or beer for our Barrel of Booze fundraiser at the ISAE 2018 Annual Convention and Trade Show! There are 3 ways to contribute:
- Bring a bottle to convention.
- Drop off a bottle at the ISAE office.
- Donate funds during your convention registration.
All the proceeds from the Barrel of Booze support the ISAE scholarship program. Tickets will be sold at the convention - 5 for $20 or 1 for $5. The winner will be announced at the closing session and you must be present to win.
Introducing the Newest ISAE Board Members
Robert (Bob) L. Myers was unanimously elected President of The Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois’ (ABDI) effective January 1, 2014. Bob is responsible for day-to-day operations of ABDI and is closely involved in all facets of the association. Myers joined ABDI in October 1993 and, previously to being appointed President, served as Vice President of Government Relations. He was responsible for monitoring the day-to-day operations of the Government Relations Department, oversaw all aspects of ABDI’s legislative initiatives and served as chief lobbyist. Myers has been recognized by the industry for developing a grassroots lobbying effort that matches at least one beer distributor with each state legislator, known as ABDI’s Key Distributor Legislator Contact Person (KDLCP) program. In 2009, Myers was elected Speaker of the Third House, an organization by and for lobbyists.
Michelle Mason, FASAE, CAE is President and CEO of Association Forum. Prior to Association Forum, Michelle served as a managing director at the American Society for Quality (ASQ). In this role, she concentrated on business development, membership, component relations, innovation, advocacy, social responsibility, and process improvement efforts. Prior to she was Vice President of Strategic and Future Focused Research at the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE). Michelle is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), Six Sigma Champion, and a Certified Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA). She is an ASAE Fellow (FASAE) and an Aspen Institute Ideas Fellow. Michelle completed the SmithBucklin Leadership Institute. She has a BA, MBA and MS. Michelle was the project lead for the bestselling publication, Seven Measures of Success: What Remarkable Associations Do That Others Don’t.
Katelyn Hindsley is a Regional Sales Manager who works with Lodging Hospitality Management and partners with Association Executives and Meeting Planners to secure hotel meeting space and create memorable events. Katelyn believes that her primary objective is to be a trusted advisor to her internal and external clients, finding creative solutions that benefit her clients as well as her hotel properties. Katelyn has successfully secured and executed hundreds of meetings and events over the past 6 years in the industry and has earned 4 President Club Awards. Katelyn holds a BA in Marketing from The University of Georgia.
Kelly A. Thompson is a nonprofit executive with over 15 years of experience and since 2010 has served as the Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Illinois. She was named Non Profit Director of the Year in 2013 by the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce and received the 2015 Professional Communicator Award from the Association of Women in Communications. She was instrumental in establishing the Volunteer & Civic Engagement Center at the University of Illinois- Springfield and is a Certified Volunteer Administrator (CVA). Additional certifications include Certified Association Executive (CAE) and Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). She also holds certifications in Non Profit Board Education and Leadership for Nonprofit Chief Executives from BoardSource. She has a well-rounded professional background with experience in business, state government, and higher education. She has her M.A. in Communication from University of Illinois-Springfield, and B.A. in Communication and Political Science from University of Missouri-Columbia, where she received the Loren Reid Award in the Communications Department for best senior performance.
Janell Marshall has been a member of the Illinois Society of Association Executives since 2014 and employed by the Illinois State Dental Society since 2002. She has served in the role of Meetings and Membership Coordinator for ISDS since 2012, planning annual meetings and working as a component liaison for membership. Janell is a 2017 graduate of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in Hotel & Restaurant Management. After several deployments and 20 years of service with the U.S. Army Reserves, Janell retired from the military in 2014. She is a currently a member of the Retired Army Reserves and the American Legion. Janell lives in Springfield with her boyfriend Scott and two dogs, Sophie and Coco. She enjoys cooking, shopping, interior design/home improvement projects, summers by the pool and working out at LA Fitness.

Association Success
One thing associations all have in common is a sense of purpose. A vision of a common good is the axis upon which the internal workings of an association spins – or at least should spin. This distinctive aspect of the industry is disturbed by the fact that associations are also unique in their design: they have to rely heavily on volunteer efforts in pursuing their goals.
