Since it’s easier for association meeting planners to keep the exhibitors they have versus recruit new ones, making your exhibitors happy by helping them meet their sales goals is one of the most important things you can do for the success of your conference.
By Robert C. Harris
A hangover usually refers to "discomfort from overindulging." More recently, it is the name of a movie about a bachelor party in Las Vegas. But a hangover should not describe a board or any of its directors. In governance, a hangover is caused by a bad experience. Most directors are able to get over the past and focus on the future. But some directors can't let go.
Can’t get certain audiences to pay to join your association? Why not get someone else to pay for them? The sponsored-membership model is alive in many forms. Here’s how associations are using it.
Incline Marketing Services
Facebook had the whole internet talking with the recent arrival of the social network’s latest feature, which was the addition of new “reactions” to supplement the iconic ‘like’ button. Now, users can also hit buttons signifying love, a laugh, surprise, sadness and anger. So, what does this mean for the way marketers create and post content, especially for those working in the association industry?
Smooth the Path
Declining revenues; overall declining membership numbers; worse retention ratings or fewer new members; less member engagement. All of these member-focused indicators should tell us when the value of our offerings is not quite valuable enough and when we should make innovation a priority. Sometimes, however, these indicators lag too far behind and by the time we recognize the trend we are well into it. If not in our data, how do we know when it is time to make innovation a priority in our association?
The Demand Perspective
A disconnect between your and your members' perceptions of value creates cracks at the very foundations of your business and will inevitably topple it down unless corrected. So why do so many associations spend years on guessing what their greatest value to members should be without trying to understand how these members actually see the world; define and experience value?
