As Congress approaches negotiations on the next major COVID-19 relief measure, we ask you once again to lend your support and urge federal legislators to include 501(c)(6) organizations in the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).
While a final relief measure is likely to pass in late July or early August, Senate leadership could release proposals as early as next week. ASAE continues to demonstrate to Congress our nonprofit association community’s need for PPP relief, but we need your help to ensure associations are included in any proposal. Please use our automated form letter to write your legislators directly and urge them to include nonprofit associations in the PPP.
Association Forum/ISAE
Take advantage of the benefits and rates that Association Forum offers ISAE members. This strategic partnership provides national and world class speakers and events at your fingertips. Right now these events are virtual, but once Chicago opens up more, feel free to attend in person. The savings alone from registering for Association Forum events will pay for your ISAE membership. One such activity is the Emerging Leaders Program.
Now in its third year, the Emerging Leaders Program trains association professionals age 35 and under to become the leaders of tomorrow with a six-month education program led by association executives and CEO's.

Do you feel like you are working harder than ever but getting less done?
Does it feel like it takes more effort to complete work and life tasks, and your threshold for impatience or irritability is lower than usual?
The explanation may lie in the low-grade proliferation of stress affecting us while we are in lockdown. This chronic stress is one of the main drains to our productivity and connected to a critical brain function, the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis, which is tied to our psychological well-being.

People join associations and chambers for a number of reasons — professional development, networking, advocacy, continuing education, etc. But regardless of why they join, there are a few underlying expectations — beyond the benefits they’ll receive — people have of your organization.
The question is, what are those expectations, and more importantly, is your association or chamber meeting them?

On March 11 I was with the Sacramento Association of REALTORS; the same day, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic. I worried the meeting room was too small and breakout groups were a bad idea. I was glad to get home to Florida. It has been almost 150 days since I have been on an airplane to visit with associations. In the Body of Knowledge for association management, you won’t find a chapter on “Preparing for a Pandemic,” nor is it on the CAE exam.

An industry that had been largely focused on evolving the attendee experience of live events was confronted with a sudden alternate reality — one in which there was no such thing as live-in-person.

If you’ve hosted or are planning to host a virtual event in 2020 (or beyond), let me ask you...did you charge or are you planning on charging for attendance? Many organizations are reluctant because virtual events lack several of the components in-person events offer (face-to-face networking being a primary one). But here’s the thing: While your virtual event might be different than your in-person event, that’s not to say it’s any less valuable.
