A survey developed by physicians and researchers at Emory University about organ donation and transplantation found that misperceptions about the lifesaving process are the most common deterrents for donating organs. The survey responses and findings were recently published in the Journal of the American College of Surgeons.

The Department of Veterans Affairs has been accused of making it difficult for veterans to access organ transplants. A recent report by the Office of the Special Counsel alleges that expecting veterans to travel to distant medical centers to access transplants "did not appear reasonable."
The allegations were first made in 2016 when whistleblower Jamie McBride accused the VA of requiring sick vets to travel long distances to receive care.

Allogeneic blood or marrow transplantation recipients are at a significantly higher risk of cognitive impairment in the years post-transplantation, according to a new study. The research helps add a missing piece to a long-unsolved puzzle about post-transplant effects on recipients, specifically that vulnerable subpopulations of similar transplants can benefit from targeted interventions in the years after they receive their lifesaving treatment.

LGBT rights in Sweden have been regarded as some of the most progressive in Europe. In 2013, a previously valid requirement of sterilization for legalization of gender change was ruled unconstitutional in court. Prior to that, we could not research whether something like uterine transplant for transgender women could be a possibility because we did not have the ability with our legislation to offer that health care. Today, in Sweden, transgender patients may now be included in clinical programs for fertility preservation before sex-reassignment surgery.
