The recent identification of an outbreak of 2019‐ novel coronavirus is currently evolving, and the impact on transplantation is unknown. However, over 400 people died in 2019 while waiting for a transplant and the country is facing a significant shortage of donors, particularly from black, Asian and ethnic minority backgrounds.
Now, the UK is introducing a new law where all eligible adults will be automatically enrolled as organ donors unless they choose to opt out, transitioning away from the previous system where people needed to opt in.

What if there was a better way?
