ABTC will offer CCTN exam at Annual ITNS Symposium

The American Board for Transplant Certification (ABTC) has partnered with ITNS for the opportunity to take the Certified Clinical Transplant Nurse (CCTN) examination Friday, September 26, in conjunction with the Annual ITNS Symposium in Houston, Texas. Individuals will take the CCTN examination on site at the JW Marriott Houston. This is a great opportunity for international attendees of the ITNS Symposium to take the CCTN examination.
Interested applicants should download and complete an application and submit it to AMP Testing Services, 18000 W. 105th Street, Olathe, KS, 66061 Applicants may also submit their completed application via fax to 913-895-4650 or email to info-amp@goamp.com.

Phoenix hosptial gets $19 million gift to create thoracic transplant center

The only Arizona hospital performing lung transplants recently received its largest-ever donation — a $19 million gift to create a new center for thoracic medicine.
Among other things, the historic donation from philanthropists John and Doris Norton will be invested in expanding the thoracic and lung transplant program at St. Joseph's Hospital in Phoenix, hospital officials said.
Organ transplant survival rate better in Ireland than UK

Patients who undergo an organ transplant are more likely to survive their operation in Ireland than in Britain.
That's the conclusion taken from findings that were revealed in a HSE report, just launched by the Irish Government.
The report shows that an Irish patient who underwent a heart transplant had a 62 percent 10-year survival rate, compared to 54 percent in Britain, against an international average of 55 percent.

Research based on job availability, competition and salary suggests the Pacific Northwest states are the best places for nurses to practice.
Oregon and Washington top WalletHub's "2014's Best & Worst States for Nurses" list, while Southern regions states Mississippi and Louisiana ranked last of among the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
"The nursing industry is expected to grow far faster than the average occupation through 2022," wrote WalletHub, "and the various day-to-day demands placed on nursing professionals are indeed profession-specific."
Prophylactic ICDs improved survival in patients with less severe HF

US: ECMC temporarily suspends living organ donor transplants

Erie County Medical Center recently announced it is temporarily suspending its living organ donor transplant program, following the death of a donor.
In the spring of 2013, a living donor successfully provided a transplant organ to a family member. About six months later, that donor died from an illegal drug overdose. After conferring with the United Network for Organ Sharing, ECMC voluntarily decided to suspend the living transplant program, while it reviews its policies.
3D-printing a better blood vessel
