ITNS
The ITNS office will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 26 and Friday, Nov. 27 in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will reopen at 8:30 am CT on Monday, Nov. 30.
ITNS
Although we should do it all year round, Thanksgiving is the time of year when we are reminded to give thanks. Recognize your boss, a friend, or mentor by making a donation to the ITNS foundation. Help us transform lives for transplant nurses and their thousands of patients.
ITNS
ITNS has one remaining $2,500 grant available. The purpose of this grant is to encourage qualified ITNS members to advance the body of transplant knowledge. This grant may be used to support research projects, a systematic review of the literature, a meta-analysis, a quality improvement initiative or a program evaluation project. Additional information and the grant application form are available on the ITNS website: http://www.itns.org/researchgrants.html

The adage that nurses eat their young may sound like old news, but it still rings as true today as it did 20 years ago. From internalized oppression to the power of patriarchal dominance, there are many reasons given for the egregious ways in which some nurses treat one another. Meanwhile, some of us have witnessed nurses who are openly intolerant of patients or colleagues. As nurses, we are responsible to speak out when witnessing a nurse demonstrating intolerance.

Around 7,000 waitlisted patients are still uncertain about getting the organs they need.

Many U.S. nurses are satisfied with their pay but a lot of them would choose a different job or career path if they could, a new survey suggests.
Overall, nurses typically earn more — $95,000 to $170,000 — with advanced degrees that let them specialize in areas such as anesthesia, midwifery and primary care, according to the Medscape Nurse Salary Report 2015. These nurses are generally more satisfied with their pay than others in the profession.

Eight women across the U.S. have begun the screening process to potentially receive a uterus from an organ donor in an effort to carry and birth children from their own bodies. This risky and incredibly dangerous procedure is welcomed by these women who have an intense desire have a baby. Dr. Andreas G. Tzakis, who is said to be the driving force behind this project, is the director of solid organ transplant surgery at a Cleveland Clinic hospital in Weston, Florida. He is committed to giving women an alternative to adoption or surrogacy to expand their family.

Back in the day, when you became licensed as a registered nurse, a licensed practical/vocational nurse or an advanced practice nurse, you sat for your NCLEX-RN or NCLEX-PN boards and met the requirements for an APN license in your state. Fewer than one in three hospitals employ a full-time doctor who specialises in liver medicine, according to a survey of 144 hospitals in the U.K. The results — published as part of a new report examining progress since The Lancet Commission on Addressing Liver Disease in the UK was published in 2014 — suggest that staffing levels for liver specialists are worryingly low in some regions, and that patient outcomes may be suffering as a result.

Short adults are much less likely than average-height adults to get a lung transplant, and they're more likely to die while waiting for one, the findings from a new study suggest.
Women are particularly affected by this bias because they tend to be shorter than men, the researchers said.
"Surgeons commonly try to match small transplant candidates with small donor lungs, because they believe it leads to better outcomes," study leader Dr. David Lederer, said in a medical center news release.

A nurse's work environment has as much influence as nurse staffing on performance across most measures, according to a recent Press Ganey Holdings report called "Nursing Special Report: The Influence of Nurse Work Environment on Patient, Payment and Nurse Outcomes in Acute Care Settings."

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) has said that a proposal to introduce an opt-out system for organ donation in Scotland could lead to “increased rates of deceased organ donation”.
Glasgow Labour MSP Anne McTaggart has lodged her Transplantation (Authorisation of Removal of Organs) Scotland Bill at Holyrood, which proposes to introduce a soft opt-out system where everyone would be considered a donor by default.
The current system requires people to join the NHS Organ Donation Register.
