A year ago, we closed out 2015 with a holiday-style letter that reviewed the year that was and previewed coming attractions. It proved to be quite popular with you, our valued members, so we decided to do it again. 2016 was another standout year for the National Association of Concessionaires (NAC) as members continue to embrace the evolving marketplace by being increasingly active in NAC. The result is that THE trade association of the recreation, leisure-time food and beverage concessions and hospitality industry is as vital and vibrant as ever. It can never be said enough that none of this would be possible without the support of our members, sponsors and a very active Board of Directors. Details on each of following items can be found on naconline.org.

Oreos never get old, especially when they're reinvented in so many incredible, yet totally simplistic ways. In July 1999, the River Oaks Theatre had the honor of exclusively hosting "The Blair Witch Project" for two weeks. Lines snaked around the building for an endless stream of sold-out shows. People began trying to sneak their friends in through the exit. With too many people and not enough seats, a minor riot ensued.
Then-general manager Rob Arcos and the rest of the staff ended up barricaded in the office while the cops escorted people out. Artisan Entertainment eventually sent the various Landmark Theatres staff T-shirts saying "I survived The Blair Witch Project," as thanks for handling the two weeks of insanity.

Bric Simpson was a genuine movie buff: He hit the theater about five times a month. That also made him attuned to the finer points of snacking, and he had some problems. "You pay a premium price for popcorn, but they only butter the top layer. An inch down, you've got almost a whole bucket of popcorn that tastes like cardboard," he says. In 2009, Simpson and his wife were shaking a popcorn bucket to distribute the butter when she said, "You know what we need? A lid."
