MIKE AND IKE® are back together with a cool new look and enhanced flavors.

Cultural shifts that are increasing the importance of the snack
CSPnet
U.S. consumers now snack more, eat alone more and grab food more on the fly. U.S. food culture is undergoing a shift that has people simultaneously more fascinated by what they eat and less inclined to cook it, according to a report by The Hartman Group. With snacking, for example, while it's clear that people's busy lifestyles are contributing to a decline in traditional meals and a rise in snacking, it is not so obvious that consumers put more cultural weight on snacks than they used to.

Survey: 66 percent of consumers wrongly think 'natural' means something
USA Today
Two-thirds of Americans think the world "natural" on the label of a packaged or processed food means it contains no artificial ingredients, pesticides or genetically engineered organisms, a survey released by the magazine Consumer Reports found. When consumers see the word on meat or poultry, 70 percent think it means no growth hormones were used in the animals feed and 60 percent think the animals got no antibiotics or other drugs in their feed.

Americans are eating more Nathan's hot dogs, just not at home
Bloomberg Businessweek
Despite America's waning interest in hot dogs, Nathan's Famous, renowned organizer of anatomy-defying hot dog eating contests, is enjoying sales growth. The company's revenues in the 12 months ending in March increased by 15.9 percent, to nearly $83 million, according to a recent Securities Exchange Commission filing. The source of Nathan's growth last year was getting its hot dogs offered by more retailers, not from supermarket sales.

California drought poised to drive up food prices as it worsens
International Business Times
A prolonged drought in California that spread to nearly 33 percent of the state is expected to dry up thousands of jobs in the state's agricultural sector and could push U.S. food prices higher this year. The state's "exceptional" drought is the worst recorded in the 14 years that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been collecting such data. The Golden State, the world's eighth-largest economy, produces nearly half of the nation's fruits and vegetables.

New Doritos fast food monstrosity embarks on free sample tour
TIME
When Doritos Loaded was spotted at a 7-Eleven in Washington, D.C., this past February, it was reported with some disbelief, mixed with equal shares disgust and desire. The new product looks like a triangle-shaped chicken nugget — if a chicken nugget had fluorescent orange breading, the saltiness and spice of original nacho Doritos and instead of "chicken" was filled with gooey melted orange-yellow cheese.

Starbucks is about to make a cold — and carbonated — calculation. Chobani and Fage face lawsuits over sugar content and 'Greekness'
The Huffington Post
Greek yogurt has gone from health food fad to inescapable food phenomenon in just a few short years. In record time, it has practically replaced non-Greek yogurt — sort of. How "Greek" is the Greek yogurt we Americans have come to worship? Not so Greek after all, it turns out, at least according to a new lawsuit.

Is your store dying a slow death — without you knowing it?
Harry J. Friedman
It always amazes me how many big retailers don't see that they're dying a slow death because of their unwillingness to change the sales culture in their stores. Even if they're lucky enough to have a good merchant at the helm who drives the business, many sales are often lost despite great merchandising because management is still married to the formula that made them successful years ago. Know anyone like that? Not long ago, I took a trip to New York to visit with a few large retailers about their business and sales goals. Here's what happened.
