Branding your church like a president
Church Mag    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Branding is often misunderstood. Take a trendy logo, slap it onto a website, business cards and maybe a few pens and you have a brand. Right? Wrong. Branding is the ongoing, intentional process to educate your audience about who you are and invite people to interact with you. In the season of heavy political debate and aggressive campaigning, let's look at the brand of the presidential candidates. More

Quick to listen, slow to hire
Church Executive    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Church people often are quick to admit they're not perfect. While the statement is true and may even suggest humility, when it comes to church business — such as hiring staff — it simply is not good policy. Unlike a secular company, a church carries the mandate to impact people's lives both for the here and now and eternity. Borrowing from Jim Collins' famous metaphor, if church is like a bus headed to its destination, it must seek to have the right people in the right seats, and it must strive to be the right bus for those people. The business of managing a parish
Episcopal Digital Network    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The idea that managing a church is like managing a business may make some of the faithful's skin crawl. But with church attendance in a general free fall and budget cuts requiring some pastors to do more with less, business principles put to good use in a church setting could be the answer to prayers. 1st impressions are virtual
Center for Church Communication    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
First impressions are no longer physical but virtual. Before someone pulls into your parking lot or shakes a greeter's hand at the front doors, visitors have already visited the church online. Church websites need to help answer as many questions and remove anything that would hinder a first-time guest from attending worship services and the physical building. More

Best interview technique you never use
Inc.    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Eventually, almost every interview turns into a question-and-answer session. You ask a question. The candidate answers as you check a mental tick-box. You quickly go to the next question and the next question and the next question, because you only have so much time and there's a lot of ground to cover because you want to evaluate the candidate thoroughly. The more questions you ask, the more you will learn about the candidate. Or not. More
