Los Angeles Times
Share

The do-gooding spirit is thriving in the U.S., with 81 percent of Americans planning to maintain or boost their donations this year, according to a new report. That's 9 percentage points higher than 2011 and 18 points above 2010, according to Fidelity Charitable, which offers programs to boost altruism. The average American plans to give $2,400, up from $2,100 last year.

Church encourages social media during service
KPHO-TV

No talking, no texting and don't answer your cellphone in church. Most congregations have a lot of strict rules during their Sunday service. But there's one place of worship in Arizona where tweeting and updating your Facebook page are actually encouraged. Mark 16:15 in the Bible says, "He said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.'" The leadership and congregation at Fellowship Church at Anthem takes this very seriously.

Many of these 10,000 campuses are linked to one another every Sunday morning by a single connection: video screens. These video campuses broadcast the sermon being preached at another campus. Video venues are perhaps the clearest example of how technology is changing church.

Managing Your Church

"Bullying" and "cyberbullying" are not legal terms, but umbrella phrases that cover a variety of behaviors. As such, there are a range of uses for the terms. Church leaders must know and understand them, particularly in the context of youth ministry. Legally, a church is at risk if it fails to monitor and supervise youth under its direct care.

Managing your workforce amid intense uncertainty
Gallup Business Journal

When the financial markets collapsed in 2008, executives were forced to focus on survival. But the unsettling slow-growth period that followed the collapse presents its own problems. Real leadership means no excuses
N2Growth
Share

Leaders don't offer, nor do they accept excuses. True leadership demands the character to demonstrate personal responsibility for one's actions, and the courage to hold others accountable for theirs. Excuses attempt to conceal personal or professional insecurities, laziness and/or lack of ability. They accomplish nothing but to distract, dilute and deceive.

A 17-year battle over the right for New York City churches to rent and use public school buildings for weekend worship services appears to have come to a close — at least for the time being.
U.S. District Judge Loretta Preska issued a permanent injunction June 29 against the New York Department of Education, calling its policy that prohibits church access to school property after hours a violation of the religious groups' First Amendment rights.

Baptist Press

"If we didn't stop him, he'd give away all the money he has," Stacey Bonham said of her 11-year-old son, Baylor. And that would be a significant amount, since Baylor deposited $106,000 in his bank account after showing his prize steer, Stripe. The young member of First Baptist Church in Newcastle, Okla., is tithing on that money to his church.
