How to treat veterans in your church
Christianity Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nov. 11 was only the eighth time, in the 54 years that it has been celebrated, that Veterans Day fell on a Sunday. It was also the first Sunday after a long and vitriolic campaign, so the observance probably passed unnoticed in many pulpits and congregations. But Veterans Day often passes unnoticed in nonelection years, too — just as veterans' needs and experiences are often overlooked in churches throughout the year. More

Worship Facilities    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In addition to tight underwriting guidelines, declining real estate values are making church deals harder to do all the time. And this trend will continue into the New Year, according to finance experts. "We're not seeing the kind of values that we used to — it used to be that if you put $1 into new construction, you'd get at least $1 in appraised value," says David Dennison, principal of Church Mortgage Solutions in Colorado Springs, Colo. "But now it's more like 90 cents." More

Managing Your Church    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Many churches look forward to a year-end giving bump to help make up for a budget shortfall. An end-of-year giving project can help maximize a bump up. It also can encourage long-term giving to avoid an overdependence on future Decembers. More

ChurchMag    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In the church, you're used to saving every penny. So why would you ever spend extra money when you didn't have to? This might seem like anathema to many church cultures, but it shouldn't be. In volunteer-driven churches, the currency you operate on is time. It really means a lot to people who give their time if the tools they use are bought with their time in mind. More

Ohio churches put faith in God and guards
WDTN-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
VideoBrief Churches across the country are faced with a new kind of evil. In Wisconsin, it was a case of domestic terror: a man who opened fire at a Sikh Temple killed six people and then took his own life. A similar terror happened in a town just south of Atlanta. There, a gunman walked into the chapel of a megachurch and fatally shot someone. Tragedies like these have kept security advisor Mark Stusek busy. He has dedicated his life to blending his mission, "to protect and serve," with his passion for Christ. More
