NADRA launches another first-ever industry event!
NADRA    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
We want to take a minute to thank all of our sponsors and those who attended the NADRA events in Providence, R.I., last week. NADRA was "in the house" and we were rocking! This was a first for our industry, and with the success of this one, it certainly will not be the last. We have three more courses to follow in the series to become a Master Deck Builder and dates will be announced in the months ahead. Keep in mind; these classes are for more than just the builder. Everyone should be on deck for the opportunity to attend. The NADRA education series is going to change our industry and we want you to be there with us as we do. More

NADRA WWA Chapter honors Washington soldier and family
NADRA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
NADRA recently announced the official plans and build schedule for their Deck For a Soldier® project. The Western Washington Chapter will break ground on March 25. Construction will be completed in time for a ribbon cutting ceremony, to be held on Memorial Day, May 30.

Before the NADRA WWA Chapter broke ground on March 25

NADRA launched its Deck For a Soldier® program in 2007; this is a community effort that expresses our appreciation for the service and dedication of the men and women of our armed forces. The project will be completed with strictly donated materials, time and labor.

SSG Marshall Diaz has been honorably serving his country for 13 years and is currently in Active Duty. During his last deployment to Afghanistan, he was wounded and medically evacuated back to the U.S. From May 2008 until April 2010, SSG Diaz was in the Warrior Transition Battalion located at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. SSG Marshall was honored with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, as well as many other prestigious awards during his career. SSG Diaz also takes time to serve his local community by volunteering with the local Boy Scout Troops and still sets time to volunteer at a local veteran's home.

On his application SSG Diaz noted, "When I was given the option to get out of the Army, I chose the only option for me, and that is to continue to serve my country. Although my rehabilitation is an ongoing process, I hold my head up with pride for there is no other country in this world that I would rather live in, than the United States of America."

Western Washington NADRA members are humbled and honored to break ground for the west coast and know the deck could not have gone to a more deserving family.

"Here's a custom privacy fence constructed around our client's trash cans and propane tank to replace an old Cedar fence. The goal was to provide improved function, while still respecting the design of the old fence and complement the new deck. The design matched the custom TimberTech BuilderRail railing we built around his deck, with matching TimberTech TwinFinish skirting. The open air top will allow for plenty of ventilation, while the space at the bottom will ensure that it doesn't become a catch-all for leaves and debris." - Breyer Construction and Landscape, LLC

California redwood takes sustainability into communities
Building Products Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Redwood has long been favored for its unique color and natural durability. While redwood can hold its "like new" warm tones with a simple maintenance schedule, the fact that redwood can be virtually ignored and still age gracefully make it an ideal choice for outdoor projects that may be exposed to the elements over time. The right lighting can expand your outdoor living space
The Poughkeepsie Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A trend toward creating "outdoor rooms" has dramatically increased lighting options for homeowners who want to extend their time outside. Most indoor lighting fixtures — chandeliers, pendant lights, table lamps — now have a counterpart designed for patios or decks. More

Home owners see big value in remodeling
International Business Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The do-it-yourself home improvement market has faced a 21 percent drop from 2005-2010, according to the latest research from market researcher Mintel. Yet, that's not due to lack of will on home owner's part, but more about lack of money, according to the survey. More than a quarter of DIYers surveyed said they would undertake a major home renovation or addition to their home if they had the funds. More

US small business lending continues to grow
Benzinga    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
U.S. small businesses lending grew in February from the year before for the 12th straight month, according to data released on Monday by PayNet Inc. According to a Reuters report, "Investment by businesses in the closely watched sector, which is considered a key driver of employment growth, fell, however, compared to the previous month for a second consecutive month, suggesting wavering confidence in the strength of the recovery and an unwillingness to invest in expansion, PayNet's president said."
