May is Deck Safety Month® NADRA Share     
It's hard to believe we have already made it to May but with it comes Deck Safety
Month®. This is the month of year when we offer our services to those in our communities who need us to make sure their decks are safe.
It really is a great program and your chance to give a little back and possibly save someone from a potential problem. With the number of aging decks today we really are offering a great service to our end users and the need to give their decks an annual check-up. It could also be a great opportunity for you to get a few referrals. How? Well, have you thought about following up with your past customers and offer to come out and provide a free NADRA 10 point deck inspection? That gives you a chance to be back in front of your home owner and remind them how wonderful you are. Any time you can get in front of your fans it is a good thing. So, go to the web site and download a Check Your Deck® list and get out and provide a few deck safety checks! It would also be wise to send your local news paper a press release letting them help you in your crusade across town to make decks in your area safer. Just have them send their readers to the NADRA website and when they need a contractor to help them they will find your name listed for their community. What's that? You aren't a member? NADRA Western Washington Chapter Deck for a Soldier® update NADRA Share
NADRA recently announced the official plans and build schedule for their Deck For a Soldier® project. The Western Washington Chapter broke ground on March 25, and has made fantastic progress.
Videos of the Western Washington Chapter's progress can be watched in Phase 1 and Phase 2. NADRA launched its Deck For a Soldier® program in 2007; this is a community effort that expresses our appreciation for the service and dedication of the men and women of our armed forces. The project will be completed with strictly donated materials, time and labor.

Trex swings to profit, buys Denver's Iron Deck CNBC Share
Deck manufacturer Trex Company Inc. returned to a profitable first quarter and announced earlier this week that it will buy a Denver-based competitor. Trex, based in northern Virginia, is buying Iron Deck Corp. in a bid to expand into the low-maintenance deck sector. Iron Deck makes steel frames for decks. Remodeling Market Index reaches highest level in 4 years National Association of Home Builders Share
According to the National Association of Home Builders' Remodeling Market Index, the remodeling market is heading into recovery with an increase to 46.5 in the first quarter of 2011 from 41.5 in the fourth quarter of 2010. This marks the highest level for the RMI since the fourth quarter of 2006. An RMI below 50, however, indicates that still more remodelers report market activity is lower (compared to the prior quarter) than report it is higher. The economy, measured by gross domestic product, slowed sharply in the first three months of the year. High gas prices cut into consumer spending, bad weather delayed construction projects and the federal government slashed defense spending by the most in six years. The 1.8 percent annual growth rate in the January-March quarter was significantly weaker than the 3.1 percent growth in the previous quarter, the Commerce Department reported. More
