 Thank you to all of our members who attended the GA education last week. And thank you to our sponsors for making it happen. I think we can all say it was a success! The classes were well organized and Glenn took a topic as potentially dry as code compliance and made it interesting. As a manufacturer, I feel it gives us a much better understanding of all the things our customers face each day pursuing their livelihood using our products. As an amateur deck builder it gave me a lot of new things to consider as I plan the remodeling of my parents' 25 year old deck. It definitely enhanced my understanding of the industry. If you haven't heard of Techno Metal Post, now is a good time to read about what they are and how they can make a difference in your business. Read the full article by Greg DiBernardo: Helical piles offer a number of advantages over traditional footings. Two big ones are that they eliminate the tasks of digging footing holes and dealing with concrete. But I've found several other reasons to use them. For instance, footing inspections aren't required. The installer records the pressure readings, pile depth and load-test results for each pile in a field report. The company I work with can then have the field report stamped by an engineer and sent directly to the building department, if required. Some departments don't require a stamp. Your local installer will know the acceptable way to proceed. The cost of this engineering is built into the cost of every helical pile we install; a different manufacturer may charge separately for an engineering report.
