When it comes to beverages, clean is the new choice for consumers everywhere. Savvy, label-reading consumers take time to choose food products with cleaner labels and ingredients and are quick to shift loyalties if the products do not meet their criteria. Beverage makers have rightly read this changing consumer mindset and risen to the challenge of crafting cleaner and more organic formulations in future. For example, almost 50 percent of consumers prefer no artificial ingredients in their choice of beverage, and 71 percent of consumers are willing to pay more for beverages made with ingredients they know and trust.

Colombia’s arabica coffee crop will recover in 2019 as a mild El Nino weather phenomenon aids flowering, the head of the country’s growers federation said, but low prices remain a worry.
The country produced 13.6 million 60-kg bags of washed arabica last year, down 4.5 percent from 14.2 million in 2017, as growers struggled with heavy rains and dismal international prices.

The 44th annual Winter Fancy Food Show, held in San Francisco, has identified key food trends for 2019. According to expert panels at the show, food is now less about taste and more about where it came from and how it was produced.
"Sustainability and social good, through upcycling, ethical sourcing, diverse crops, and cause-related products, are growing ever more in popularity,” said Denise Purcell, head of content for the Specialty Food Association, the show’s sponsor. “We saw this emerging at the Summer Fancy Food Show this past June, and it's really come to life here at the Winter Fancy Food Show."
