Local newspapers are maintaining successful multilocation merchandising programs inside their area Wal-Mart stores, according to a targeted survey of NAA members. The survey also reveals that newspapers are achieving success in reaching readers on the run at McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts locations. NAA's Single-Copy Committee initiated this online survey to capture data on the relative success of newspapers in securing inside locations at key accounts and to track weekday and Sunday single-copy sales for the industry.

Irish papers' sites more popular than print for key topics

Newspaper websites in Ireland are beating their print equivalents as a source for news and current affairs, according to new research. TV still dominates as the main source for breaking news according to 63 percent of those surveyed, but 59.9 percent go to newspaper websites compared with 57.4 percent who purchase print editions.

Researchers at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center in New York recently found that enhanced e-books distracted children from the story, and their bells and whistles prevented children from remembering as many narrative details. The study tested 32 pairs of parents and their 3- to 6-year-old children.
