Public Policy Senate defeats repeal of burdensome 1099 reporting provision Despite wide support from the business community, the U.S. Senate rejected an amendment to a small business lending and tax incentive bill that would have removed the new Form 1099 information reporting rules used as a revenue raiser for the health care reform legislation. NAA joined more than 550 groups across the country calling for repeal of the Form 1099 reporting requirement that would impose a major paperwork burden on many businesses, especially those using independent contractors. The paper announced it "will follow a small-market newspaper trend" by cutting back on its number of print editions beginning Oct. 18. Starting on that date, the 96-year-old News will be published on Monday and Thursday afternoons, with mail delivery to follow on Tuesdays and Fridays. More
