Public Policy Broad FOIA exemption for SEC repealed President Obama signed a bill into law on Oct. 5 that repeals Section 929I of the Dodd-Frank financial reform law. Section 929I was controversial because it could have been interpreted to grant the Securities and Exchange Commission unfettered discretion under the Freedom of Information Act to withhold from disclosure virtually all documents related to the agency’s responsibilities. The Sunshine in Government Initiative, co-founded by NAA, was very active in advocating for an amendment to this overbroad provision.
