National Association of State Boating Law Administrators
From Nov. 6: The Operation Dry Water Awards Program recognizes law enforcement officers and agencies that are making a positive impact on boating under the influence (BUI). This year, the 2019 Operation Dry Water (ODW) award winners were recognized at the NASBLA Annual Conference held in Anchorage, Alaska. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, October 1st, where the ODW Officer of the Year, Top Agencies and Media Award winners were honored for their hard work and dedication to boating under the influence prevention and the Operation Dry Water campaign.

From June 12: A bill aimed at stopping deadly boat crashes has passed the state legislature, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo is expected to sign it into law. The legislation comes after two young girls were killed in boat crashes. Charlotte McCue lost her life right here in our area and Brianna Lieneck was killed in a boat crash off of Long Island. This legislative session marks a major triumph for the family of Brianna Lieneck. The 11-year-old was killed when a boat came crashing into her family's boat at full throttle.

From April 24:
A boat accident sent 13 people into the water, and two to the hospital, near Anclote Key, Florida over the weekend. On Sunday, multiple agencies responded after the 20-foot fiberglass pontoon took on water, sending the people on board in too, according to Pasco Fire Rescue. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office said their Marine Unit rescued 10 of the 13 individuals.

From July 31: The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) is pleased to announce the regional winners of the Boating Educator of the Year Award. From June 12:
On Monday, Texas Gov. Greg Abbot signed a bill that requires boat operators to be physically connected to a boat’s emergency shutoff switch into law.
The bill was called "Kali’s Law," after 16-year-old Kali Gorzell died in a 2012 boating accident in Port Aransas, Texas. According to TV station KVUE, a family friend was driving a boat that Gorzell was a passenger on when it "swapped ends." The teenager fell off the boat and struck the propeller.

From Oct. 30: When Alec Stark and his duck-hunting buddies pushed off from shore in the predawn darkness of a brisk Saturday a couple weeks ago, they weren’t thinking about much beyond their collective hope the birds would be flying. Their blind was tucked out of the wind, so they spent the next few hours in relative comfort, passing the time chatting and watching the sky over North Long Lake near Brainerd.
