San Diego has been encouraged to put in a bid to host the Summer Olympics a decade from now in 2024. San Diego — with its blue skies, almost year round sun and more than 70 miles of majestic pacific coastline with mountains and deserts — a perfect place to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. Or is it?

Stadium's fate could swing C4C outcome
The Colorado Springs Business Journal
Of the four components in the City for Champions proposal, the downtown stadium concept has emerged as the least popular. Skeptical City Councilors have cast doubt on the facility's estimated cost of $92.7 million, its optimistic attendance projections — 781,000 by its fifth year — and its financial structure — 100 percent from public sources. In the original proposal last summer, the downtown stadium was the sport-specific new home of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox minor-league baseball franchise.
Super Bowls could be the new path to public stadium financing
NBC Sports
The NFL's good fortune regarding the weather at Super Bowl XLVIII could help the league's owners make a fortune. (OK, even more of a fortune.) Apart from the increased pressure on future Super Bowl bids that comes from having cold-weather cities with open-air stadiums in the mix, the possible procurement of a Super Bowl could become the new carrot for stadium construction.

Michigan State, UNC, Florida and Texas in multi-city 2018 barnstorming event
USA TODAY
Travel, big cities, historic sights, free time and, of course, world-famous NBA arenas are all included in a 2018 event announced recently, in which the MSU men's basketball team will join North Carolina, Florida and Texas in a three-game, eight-day barnstorming tour of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. "This event is not about me, it's not about the media, it's not about the fans," said Mark Hollis, whose past ideas include the 2003 "BasketBowl" at Ford Field and the 2011 MSU-UNC basketball game on an aircraft carrier near San Diego.
Chicago mayor wants to host NFL Draft and Super Bowl
CBS Sports
In the days after the league successfully staged its first Super Bowl in the New York-New Jersey area, owners of other NFL teams in cold-weather climates continued their lobbying efforts to land the sport's biggest game. And for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, it's about more than the Super Bowl. Emanuel would like to see other NFL-related events in the Windy City.
