What my membership in the NASC means to me
By Ron Eifert via NASC
I had some time to reflect on the Symposium on my short drive home, and one thing among many was pretty evident — here is a passion for sports and sporting events like never before! This brings me to the reason of this message to all of you. I wanted to pass along some thoughts on "What my Membership in the NASC means to me?" I really don't know where to start with this other than the fact that it is our Association, and while we have some great leadership and staff at the National level, it is only as good as what we put into it.

Amateur Update: A third year is an honor
Post-Bulletin
Just returning from the National Association of Sports Commissions 2013 Symposium one thing was clear — this business is booming! The projected number of attendees for the conference was 650 yet there were almost 800 in attendance. Not all are sports commissions — some are event rights holders, some are Convention and Visitors Bureaus and some are Sports Councils. However you slice it, it is a tremendously exciting and vibrant sector of the travel and hospitality industry and it seems everyone wants to be a part of it moving forward.

Foodservice Equipment and Supplies
With the advent of food on TV and a celebrity chef-inspired culture, consumers want better food everywhere they go, and that includes at the ball park. That's why today's stadium foodservice needs to be flexible enough to handle changing menus and have enough capacity to feed large crowds in short periods of time.

UFC President Dana White calls for a rule covering eye pokes
Los Angeles Times
One of the undercard fights during "UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen" ended because of an eye poke, and UFC President Dana White wants to do something about it. During the Ovince St. Preux-Gian Villante fight, St. Preux accidentally poked Villante in the eye. Referee Kevin Mulhall stepped in and checked Villante, then asked him if he could see. Villante said he couldn't, so Mulhall stopped the fight. Why? There is no rule that covers eye pokes, because fight rules were written for boxing, not MMA, and boxers rarely get poked in the eye.
