NATA is offering a new webinar series focusing on treatment techniques for lateral ankle sprains and ankle instability. The first installment in this series, "Module 1 — Ankle Sprains and Instability: What Are We Trying to Treat?" will be presented by Erik Wikstrom, PhD, ATC, at 11 a.m. CT on Sept. 12. Participants will learn the mechanical consequences of a lateral sprain and its sequela, discuss the sensorimotor dysfunction caused by a lateral ankle sprain and understand the implications these consequences have for rehabilitation decisions. The NFL announced the largest donation in its history on Wednesday — $30 million to the National Institutes to Health. The funding is to be used at the discretion of NIH, which is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This act of generosity was not generated in a vacuum. In 2011, there were about 1.2 million people treated for football-related injuries in U.S. emergency rooms and doctors' offices, along with more than 581,000 treated for soccer injuries and more than 170,000 treated for volleyball injuries, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. Ex-NFL Players More Likely to Die of Alzheimer's

On the opening day of the NFL season, a first-ever government study finds retired football players are three to four times more likely to die from diseases of the brain compared with the general population. Concussion Screenings for Marquette Student Athletes
