As the federal government's partial shutdown drags on, problems are growing as "essential employees" call out sick and shuttered facilities stay closed. New Jersey isn't immune.
People hoping to travel out of Newark Liberty International Airport could face delays as Transportation Security Administration workers are calling out sick. Those hoping to get a tour of Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange are out of luck with no workers to give tours or open the buildings.
Six departments have had their budgets approved, but the rest are affected by the shutdown. Those departments include Agriculture, Commerce, Justice, Homeland Security, Interior, State, Transportation, Treasury and Housing and Urban Development.

Construction's December jobless rate rose to 5.1 percent from November's 3.9 percent but improved from the year-earlier level of 5.9 percent, according to the latest monthly BLS employment report, released on Jan. 4.
