New Brunswick by early next week will unveil plans to build a $55 million public school funded in a $750 million expansion to the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Mayor James Cahill said.
Local activists and school community members, and more recently a Rutgers union, have rallied against the expansion — a 12-story, 510,000-square-foot Cancer Pavilion announced by RWJBarnabas Health last spring that would include the demolition of Lincoln Annex School on Somerset Street.

If New Jersey is to curb its greenhouse gas emissions and energy spending, communities must identify their sustainability champions at every level of the residential, business, educational, and governmental sectors. That's according to speakers at the TriCounty Sustainability Alliance & Sustainable Jersey Energy Efficiency Summit, held in Haddonfield in late January.
Organizers rallied community green teams from throughout South Jersey at Haddonfield Borough Hall, hoping to spread the word about access to an underutilized pool of resources —the $300-million Clean Energy program — and the urgency to leverage it in addressing energy consumption statewide.

Camden County freeholder Jonathan Young writes: "Thanks to modern mobile devices, near-ubiquitous internet connectivity and a plethora of free social media and sharing applications, we can send photos to our families from across the world, video chat in real time with distant friends and upload our voices to the ears of millions in less time than it takes to record ourselves in the first place. These tools can keep us closer together, but they can also help public safety officers and dispatchers save lives — if they have the technology.
"The sad reality in New Jersey is that because funding designated to improve and modernize 911 call centers has been continuously redirected to other programs, most public-safety answering points, or PSAPs, statewide lack the ability to receive the same multimedia that we can send to our friends and family instantly on iPhones and other mobile devices. This significantly impacts the response time of police, fire and emergency medical services, as well as their ability to accurately collect information as they respond to emergencies and dangerous situations in a timely manner."

Construction's current evolution sees the introduction of futuristic technologies, such as drones and augmented reality, that are radically shaping the way projects are built and delivered to clients. And yet, in other ways, the industry is stuck in the stone age. One such dinosaur is the existing template for the general contractor/trade partner dynamic, which is one of adversaries, not allies.
