The 62nd Annual New Jersey Asphalt Paving Conference will take place Tuesday, March 19, at The College of New Jersey's Brower Student Center (2000 Pennington Road) in Ewing. The conference is New Jersey's top event for professionals working in all phases of asphalt paving construction, operations and research. The event draws more than 300 consultants, contractors, suppliers, designers, government agency employees, researchers and others involved in the paving industry.

The next NJSME general meeting will take place Wednesday, April 3, at The Palace at Somerset (333 Davidson Ave.) in Somerset. Registration is scheduled for 9:30 a.m., and the morning session is set to run from 10 a.m. until noon. The afternoon session is set to run from 1-3 p.m.

Members of the Executive Board of NJSME recently attended the NJDOT Steering Committee meeting to discuss Local Aid Applications that are under review for the 2019 funding cycle. Tentative awards were discussed at the meeting and the review process is discussed.
It is important to submit quality applications to give your municipality the best chance of receiving funds. Note as well that failure to closeout grants or utilize prior award amounts can count against current applications.
Finally, the available funds statewide are allocated by County based on population and local road mileage.

The NJSME is seeking a liaison for TCNJ. The liaison provides a conduit through which NJSME can communicate with engineering students at local colleges.

The Wildwood City Commission approved a master plan that calls for a $64.5 million complete Boardwalk reconstruction. The Press of Atlantic City reports officials argue revenue generated from state tourism taxes largely comes from the Boardwalk.

Construction is continuing to advance on Rutgers University's Honors Living-Learning Community project in Downtown Newark. This unique five-story building is expected to include 391 beds for Rutgers-Newark students in a mixture of studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom and double occupancy dorms, along with academic space for the university. Additional features will include a parking garage and an outdoor public piazza designed by ICRAVE.

Gov. Phil Murphy will not be able to make his ambitious clean energy goals if he fails to stop 12 fossil fuel projects from moving forward, according to a report issued Wednesday by a coalition of environmental groups.
Advocates say four proposed power plants along with eight pipelines and other natural gas infrastructure would increase New Jersey's greenhouse gas output by 30 percent and would derail Murphy's efforts to power the state by renewable energy by mid-century.
