The Byram Township Council and the Municipal Building Subcommittee continue to explore options for a new municipal building.
Members of the council updated the public Tuesday on some of the topics discussed during the Oct. 3 subcommittee meeting.
One suggestion is to relocate the police station to the Cranberry Lake firehouse.
The 108-year-old Portal Bridge became stuck Tuesday night in the open position, halting New Jersey Transit trains. "The delays caused by the failure of a century-old bridge to close shows yet again that we must build Gateway now," Stephen Sigmund, spokesman for the Gateway Development Corp., said in a statement."
A bridge at the Jersey Shore will once again undergo construction and will be closed during the overnight hours for several days in November.
The Margate Bridge and Causeway will be closed to traffic from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning, weather permitting, for repair and maintenance work that was determined necessary during last month's construction period.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently adopted the Paris Climate Agreement, the first U.S. public transportation agency to do so. The port authority is part of the We Are Still In coalition.
The agreement set a target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) 35 percent by 2025 and 80 percent by 2050.
For Construction Pros
Although air quality often takes a backseat to occupational safety, lung cancer mortalities are 50 percent higher among construction workers than the general population. The Center for Construction Research and Training and Duke University found that nearly one-fifth of lung diseases among construction workers may be a result of harmful emissions on site. While some of these toxins are considered respiratory irritants, others are long-known carcinogens directly linked to lung cancer.
Some business owners are finding that tasks are either consuming more effort to accomplish than needed or require more time than the schedule allows in order to complete properly. As Fortune explains it, "The global engineering and construction sector holds the dual distinctions of being one of the world's largest industries — yet one of its least efficient." However, it's not all bad news. A tech revolution is on the horizon for the construction sector.
A construction project manager sets the foundation that a successful project is built on, as they are responsible for seeing projects through from initial conception all of the way to completion.
A job site without a skilled project manager is akin to a film set without a gifted director. Even if there’s a solid script, a talented team of actors, and a reliable crew, the director is what ultimately makes or breaks the end result.
