It's almost time for the 101st Annual New Jersey State League of Municipalities Conference, which will be held at the Atlantic City Convention Center today through Thursday, Nov. 17.

Annual League Conference attendees should download the app to access a fully searchable session schedule, interactive map of the exhibit floor, a thorough listing of exhibitors and up-to-date event information. It also provides alerts and updates right through the last day of the conference.

The ongoing political fallout from last month's guilty verdicts in the federal Bridgegate trial continues to dog Gov. Chris Christie. First, it appears that the verdicts are hurting his propects for a significant post in the White House administration of President-elect Donald Trump. But the scandal is also causing some tension in Trenton, where Democratic lawmakers are looking to continue to put pressure on the Republican governor. At least one key legislator, Sen. Loretta Weinberg (D-Bergen), is calling for Christie's impeachment.

NJ Transit was beset with maintenance and safety issues well before the fatal Sept. 29 passenger train crash at the Hoboken station, according to recent testimony from the agency's newly appointed executive director. Stephen H. Santoro, who took over the rail agency in mid-October, told a Nov. 4 state legislative hearing that a Federal Railroad Administration audit completed in June revealed numerous safety violations — from an absence of on-board emergency equipment to lax inspection procedures for locomotive brakes.

In an official response to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and to the gas companies that comprise the shell organization known as PennEast, the New Jersey Division of Rate Counsel continued to blast the PennEast pipeline project by further substantiating its assertions that the proposed gas pipeline is not needed and does not benefit the public. New Jersey Conservation Foundation, Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association and the Eastern Environmental Law Center applaud the serious economic investigation that Rate Counsel undertook and renew their call for FERC to deny any approvals for this project.

The Summit Common Council has approved a contract for a pilot program that will see Park Plus Valet Service of Newark provide valet parking service for employees utilizing the Tier Garage on Springfield Avenue — Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. — from Nov. 28 through Dec. 26, exclusive of holidays. The program, funded by the City's Parking Utility, will be subsidized by the City at a cost of up to — but not exceeding — $15,500 and will, according to City of Summit Parking Services Manager Rita M. McNany, provide valet parking for 100 vehicles to be used for employees of downtown businesses.

Washington and the nation saw red — more than expected — across the electoral map with Republican Donald Trump's Nov. 8 squeaker win of the presidency over Democrat Hillary Clinton in a tight race to the end, and with the GOP managing to keep control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. As the construction industry digests Trump's surprising victory, they expect the new administration's regulatory policy to tilt strongly toward business interests' point of view. In particular, industry officials foresee a pullback on environmental and workplace-related rules.
Another construction industry focus will be Trump's proposals for a sizable increase in infrastructure investment. Just how large an increase — and the type of projects the plan will include — are unclear, however.
