It's been a solid year for general contractors and construction managers in New York and New Jersey, with the 50 firms in the Top Contractors ranking reporting revenue of $27.42 billion in 2018, a 6.5 percent increase from the $25.75 billion that the 50 highest-ranking companies reported for 2017.
There were some surprises when looking at revenue figures for the top 10 firms in certain sectors.

An abandoned rail line that meanders through 2.15 miles of pastoral northern Passaic County is one step closer to becoming a hiking and cycling trail.
The long-dormant New York & Greenwood Lake Railway rail bed that runs parallel to Ringwood Avenue could have a contractor as soon as fall, said Passaic County Freeholder Director John Bartlett.

Linden, New Jersey, will receive more than half a million dollars for road improvements as part of the state's Municipal Aid grant awards, totaling $161.25 million.
Governor Phil Murphy and state Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti announced in April, that 537 cities and towns across the state would share grant awards totaling $161.25 million.
After paperwork was filed and all the documents had been signed, Mayor Derek Armstead reported that at least five major projects in Linden would be funded by the state.

A portion of the new Scudder Falls Bridge will open soon, with a new toll to quickly follow.
The bridge over the Delaware River will connect Ewing, New Jersey, with Lower Makefield in Bucks County, and will be the first stage of new construction to be open to vehicles, according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.
