Utah doubles down on gold laws amid inflation fears, distrust

The gold bugs have settled in Utah. Populist fears about the Federal Reserve's loose money policy spurred Gov. Gary Herbert last week to sign a law that is already on the books. Utah now explicitly recognizes that gold and silver coins designated legal tender by the federal government are also legal tender in the state. This redundant exercise in lawmaking aims to keep alive the debate over gold's role in the economy as rising costs for everyday goods hit household budgets. In television commercials and newspaper ads, gold is peddled as a safe investment that is shielded against inflation. Those that advocate for its broader acceptance and believe gold prices will continue to rise—in tandem with inflation—are known as "gold bugs." More

Rick and Corey Harrison and Austin "Chumlee" Russell from the History Channel series "Pawn Stars" will be purchasing items in a free event open to the public from noon to 6 p.m. inside the Sequoyah Grand Ballroom in Tulsa, Okla. Arrest made in Arkansas pawnshop owner murder

A Cabot, Ark., pawnshop owner who was found dead inside his business after a fire was shot, authorities said. Capital murder suspect, David Derreberry confessed on camera as he headed into the Lonoke County Courthouse in Lonoke, Ark., for an arraignment. In shackles and cuffs his voice broke as he said, "It went too far and I apologize to his family and I'm sorry for anything my family has to deal with and I'm guilty and I deserve to pay the price. My wife is not guilty." Derreberry's wife, Jaclyn, walked close behind him in shackles as they are both charged with capital murder for the death of grandfather and Cabot businessman, Billy Joe Pipkin, 61. The Derreberry's have four children and they are now in state custody.
