Bombardier plant expansion brings 100 new jobs to North Country

New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced that with the support of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council, Bombardier Transportation is moving forward with its nearly $25 million expansion project in Plattsburgh. The expansion project was awarded $2.5 million through the Regional Council initiative and is a priority project for the NCREDC. The project will create 100 new jobs and retain 288 existing jobs at its production facility, providing a much-needed economic boost to the surrounding community. More

Immigration policy shift seen as boost to talent pool, economy

The Obama administration announced last spring that undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. under the age of 16 and who meet several guidelines can apply for so-called deferred action, which will allow them to remain in the country without fear of deportation for two years, subject to renewal. They would also be eligible to work legally. The move, expected to affect up to 60,000 undocumented immigrants in New York City, was roundly applauded by local business leaders, immigration advocates and elected officials, who said it would help boost the city's economy.
