Recently, the FAASTeam Inspection Authorization Refresher Course Coordinator (IA RCC) was made aware that a course that had been previously accepted for use as an IA Refresher Training Course was still being taught as an "Accepted" course, almost two years after it had expired. The course provider's name is AVTRAK, which is no longer in business. More

New design for Mechanic and Repairman certificates

On Jan. 1, 2013, the Airmen Certification branch of the FAA will begin issuing Mechanic and Repairman certificates with a new design on the back of the certificate honoring Charles Taylor. Since the introduction of the updated airman certificate in 2003, the Mechanic and Repairman community have requested that FAA issue a certificate that represents the contributions of Mr. Charles E. Taylor, who served as the Wright brothers' mechanic and was credited with building the engine for the 1903 Wright Flyer. More

There would be universal outrage and condemnation if an airline tried to put students in the cockpit on passenger-carrying flights–even if "just" to handle the radios or practice touching some of the controls in cruise flight. Slow as it is to react to some safety issues, even the FAA would be all over that airline in a millisecond. More

AAR Aircraft Services' new maintenance base in Duluth, Minn., has been operating less than a month, but 100 new jobs have already been created. That's 100 down, 125 jobs to go. AAR's hiring is on schedule to create 225 jobs within a year to operate three production lines servicing Air Canada's fleet of 89 Airbus A320 jets, according to Dany Kleiman, an AAR Aviation Services Group vice president. More
