FAA rule clears path for supersonic flight tests

The FAA took another step toward facilitating the development of civil supersonic aircraft with the release of a final rule today that clarifies procedures for obtaining special flight authorizations for flight testing beyond Mach 1.
Adopted largely as proposed in June 2019, the final rule outlines the information needed for applications of special flight authorization and designates the FAA program office that will process those applications.

Aviation groups release runway excursion reduction plan

The Flight Safety Foundation (FSF) and Eurocontrol today released a broad set of recommendations aimed at preventing runway excursions, which they said are now the most frequent type of accident for both small and large aircraft. Dubbed the "Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Excursions" (GAPPRE), the report was developed by more than 100 aviation professionals at some 40 organizations, with the effort led by FSF and Eurocontrol.

AeroLEDs lights approved for rotorcraft

AeroLEDs has received FAA approval for more than 200 Part 27 makes and models. The new Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) covers the installation of the SunSpot 36 and 46 Series LEDs on nearly all "Normal" category rotorcraft.
The SunSpot Series Landing and Taxi lights feature less drag, less draw, more lumens output (total light output), and are vibration and shock resistant, which makes them unaffected by adverse environmental conditions, according to company officials.

Sensenich prop STC'd for Super Cub

Sensenich has been awarded a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for its carbon ground adjustable pitch STOL propeller on Piper Super Cub aircraft.
This STC allows installation of the prop on PA-18 150 aircraft with Lycoming O-360 series engines, with future STCs planned for Lycoming O-320 powered Super Cubs and other popular training aircraft, according to company officials.
