Bombardier Commercial Aircraft announced that its all-new C Series aircraft program has begun the ramp-up to full production. The final assembly facility is fully equipped and production is progressing according to plan with aircraft in various stages of the build sequence. Additionally, Bombardier also confirmed that the CS100 aircraft that is scheduled to be delivered to first operator SWISS International Air Lines and enter service in Q2 2016 is structurally complete.
GE Aviation will build the advanced turboprop engine for Textron Aviation's new turboprop single at a development, test and engine production headquarters planned in the Czech Republic. Dubbed the GE Turboprop Center of Excellence, the facility is expected to open in 2020 to develop and manufacture new turboprop engines in the 1,000- to 2,000-shp range, including the 1,300-shp powerplant for Textron Aviation's turboprop single that was officially launched in November.

Veteran aircraft mechanic Greg Marino worked at Allegiant Air for just two weeks before he quit because of what he said are the airline's dangerous maintenance practices. Marino said mechanics at the airline's facility in Sanford often lapsed into bad maintenance habits. He said they failed to follow proper procedure in diagnosing aircraft problems and routinely misused a Federal Aviation Administration program that allowed planes, under some conditions, to fly with inoperative components or systems.
As originally reported on the Chicago Tribune, airport workers from nine U.S. airports are planning to block bridges and march through terminals and protest at airline headquarters during a day of civil disobedience on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
The workers — a mix of cleaners, baggage handlers, fuelers and wheelchair attendants — will risk arrest at airports and other locations to bring attention to their campaign for better wages, the Service Employees International Union said.

A tiny San Diego County school district in California that has struggled with declining enrollment in recent years is getting ready to launch an aviation program that officials hope will attract new students. State and federal grants are funding the program in the Warner Unified School District, which serves 210 students in Kindergarten through 12th grade in the far northeastern edge of the county.

According to author Jeb Burnside: One of my earliest aviation memories is of a family holiday trip from our home in Illinois to Florida, spending the season with not one, but two, grandmothers and relations.
Any Christmas dinner for 30 or so members of the same family won't be without its drama, and I'm sure that one didn’t surprise. But my memories of that December were more focused on the transportation: A Cessna 205 with an N-number ending 99Z.
The National Transportation Safety Board's 2016 "Most Wanted" list of transportation safety improvements includes several items directed toward general aviation, with Board Chairman Christopher Hart saying that unlike commercial aviation, GA has been "stubbornly resistant to improvement."
Topping the list of urgently needed safety improvements again this year is loss of control accidents in general aviation, which federal investigators note leads to an average of one aircraft accident every four days in this country.
