Allegiant Air Flight 815 had just departed North Carolina on Dec. 3 with 94 passengers bound for St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport when an alarming gray haze began to fill the cockpit and passenger cabin.
Pilots declared an emergency, telling the tower to notify fire rescue crews "to roll the trucks." The haze dissipated on landing at Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, and the problem was traced to a malfunctioning air-conditioning system.

Honeywell Aerospace's JetWave wireless in-flight connectivity system has received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration approval for the Boeing 757. Honeywell's JetWave is the exclusive hardware for aircraft to connect to Inmarsat's Global Xpress, the only high-speed broadband satellite network spanning the globe that will provide fast, seamless and reliable connectivity over both land and water.
The certification validates the reliability and capability of Honeywell's hardware to connect to Global Xpress Aviation service to provide passengers with the same high-speed Wi-Fi experience they get at home or in the office while traveling at 35,000 feet.
Slack air cargo demand has forced Boeing to halve production of the 747-8 and take an $885m pre-tax charge on the poorly-selling superjumbo. Market jitters in China plus a 1.2 per cent contraction in air freight volumes have sapped confidence, though several major cargo carriers, helped by cheap fuel, are poised to announce improved results for 2015. "While we remain confident in the 747-8's unique value-proposition and an upcoming replacement cycle for late-model 747-400 Freighters, we're taking the prudent step to further align production with current market requirements," said Ray Conner, CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
Southern Air Holdings Inc. announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings Inc., a leading global provider of outsourced aircraft and aviation operating services, in an all-cash, debt-free transaction valued at approximately $110 million. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and approval by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and is expected to close in the next few months.

At the Kentucky State FairGrounds in November 1911, the purple handbill promised armored cars, motorcycles, artillery, an ambulance corps, a re-enactment of Mexican guerrillas battling U.S. Army infantry, and most important, the "Wright's Aviators — Kings Of The Air." The copy was breathless: "Aviator P.O. Parmelee who did scout duty for U.S. Government on the Mexican border during the revolution, and Aviator Clifford Turpin, the world's two greatest Aviators fight a desperate duel in the skies."
A plane that made an emergency landing on US 27 in west Broward, Florida, was back in business, taking off from the same highway it landed on hours earlier.
Three people were on board when the plane had engine trouble. Luckily, no one was injured.
A mechanic spent all day working on the single-engine Cessna casually pulled over on the highway’s grassy side in Weston.
Although builders of amateur-built aircraft often work with limited resources, they can still apply the methodical strategies of data-driven risk mitigation, according to Paul Dye, editor of KITPLANES magazine and a former senior flight director at NASA. In a keynote talk at the opening day of the Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida, Dye said that builders — and even pilots doing their own repairs and maintenance work — can and should adopt risk models built on actual data, not hangar tales and rumor.

According to author Julie DeStefano: Because of the kindness of a complete stranger, a Champ sits at the ready in a hangar a few miles away, just waiting for me to take her up for a flight.
That kindness is the gift of organ donation, which came to me at a time in my life where I doubted that I would ever see the earth from a small airplane, much less as the pilot.
I hope that in telling you my story, you will consider becoming an organ tissue and eye donor — if you have not done so already.
Wanna buy an airplane cheap? A company called Aeromarine LSA may have just what you're looking for in the form of the Merlin PSA, which debuted at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo in Sebring, Florida. The Merlin PSA — for Personal Sport Airplane — is a lightweight, single-seat aircraft powered by a Rotax 582 two-stroke engine.
