PAMA, in coordination with generous industry partners, has made available three new opportunities for current and future aviation maintenance professionals.
Award winners will be announced at the Aerospace Maintenance Competition awards ceremony, taking place in conjunction with MRO Americas in Atlanta on April 11, 2019.
The White House announcement Friday afternoon of an agreement to end the prolonged shutdown came as air traffic staffing shortages created lengthy delays for traffic in the New York area. President Donald Trump detailed an agreement to reopen the government until February 15 while negotiations over border security continued. Reports cited the air traffic delays Friday morning as playing a role in the decision to move forward with a compromise on the five-week-old shutdown.
According to author Christian A. Klein: As I write this in early January, the partial federal government shutdown has dragged on for weeks, and the aviation industry is starting to feel the pinch from the fact that more than 15,000 FAA workers have been furloughed. A wide variety of agency activities have been indefinitely suspended, including certification and rulemaking.
Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), today announced the availability of the GPS 3000, a high-integrity GPS position sensor that seamlessly interfaces to existing avionics to help meet Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) Out requirements. Also, targeting the air transport and defense markets, the GPS 3000 is designed as a WAAS/SBAS position source for select Flight Management Systems (FMS).
Honeywell and Pipistrel have signed a memorandum of understanding that will bring both companies together to explore and develop solutions for the urban air mobility market. The companies will integrate Honeywell avionics, navigation, flight control systems, connectivity and other beneficial products and services onto a future Pipistrel Vertical Takeoff and Landing air vehicle to support fully autonomous operations in the future.
AAR, an independent provider of global aftermarket aviation services, has been awarded a seven-year contract by the Danish Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization to perform maintenance, repair and overhaul of Pratt & Whitney F100-220 engine components on the General Dynamics F-16 for the Royal Danish Air Force.
According to Ben Visser: In the past few years, I have written a lot of columns about octane ratings. However, the questions I receive indicate there is still a lot of confusion as to what the ratings systems are and their relationship to each other.
Many people do not realize that the octane rating of a fuel is not a physical property of the fuel, like specific gravity or pour point. It is a performance perimeter that gives a rating for the fuel under very tightly controlled lab conditions.
Brian Youngers is looking to hire an A&P for his rural Kansas company and expects it to be a challenge. Youngers, operations director for Southwind Global Aviation, an aircraft delivery and services company, thinks Southwind’s rural location — 42 miles north of Wichita — and an industry-wide shortage of mechanics could make filling the vacancy tough.
The Aeronautical Repair Station Association continues its quest to create a fair playing field for maintenance organizations that are required to obtain current maintenance data while manufacturer counterparts are not being forced to comply with their own mandates to make it available.
