Boeing's new chief executive and chairman, Dennis Muilenburg, announced Friday a major reorganization in the company's executive ranks.
In the local Commercial Airplanes division, new leaders will take over responsibility for three key slots: airplane manufacturing, new airplane development, and engineering.
Two of those promoted in the re-shuffle, Mike Delaney and Greg Hyslop, are engineering leaders who became highly unpopular with many local employees when they transfered thousands of jobs out of the Puget Sound region.
Air Canada has announced plans to open a center of excellence for aircraft maintenance in Winnipeg, Canada.
Having entered into an agreement with the Manitoba Government, Air Canada said it expects to create 150 jobs at the Western Canada Center of Excellence from 2017 with the possibility of further expansion and job creation in the future.

According to authors Michael Lamoureux and Pierre Mitchell: Recently, we discussed how maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) is a very important but yet often overlooked category in many procurement organizations. We also noted that this is unfortunate, because even though MRO is often in the unaddressed tail-spend category, it is ripe with opportunities that go well beyond reducing process costs or even purchased costs but also included reductions in inventory locations, inventory levels, expedited shipments, inventory write-offs, returns, expediting and production stoppages.

Air Austral has signed a wide-ranging contract for the two Boeing 787 aircraft scheduled to enter its fleet in spring 2016. The agreement includes component support, engineering and Maintenance Control Services components, plus light and line maintenance services. AFI KLM E&M will support the airline's Reunion-based teams locally to bring the two aircraft into service.
Lufthansa Technik has signed a long-term agreement with low-cost carrier Tigerair Taiwan to provide repair services for the auxiliary power units (APU) on its A320 fleet.
Under the terms of the contract, Lufthansa Technick will cover APU component overhaul as well as providing a pooling supply of components from its warehouse in Singapore.
The FAA has determined that Huntington Beach, California-based avionics manufacturer Ameri-King Corporation has manufactured, sold or distributed parts and articles for installation on FAA type-certificated aircraft that did not conform to an approved design, but were otherwise represented as FAA-approved.
As a result, the agency has issued an emergency cease and desist order to Ameri-King, while terminating its TSOA and PMA certifications.
MTU via Aviation Pros
In the fiscal year of 2015, MTU Maintenance, the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm of MTU Aero Engines, strengthened its position as one of the world's leading MRO providers. All in all, the company signed more than 250 new contracts. Numerous regular customers reaffirmed their confidence in its capabilities by renewing or extending their existing contracts, and a further 45 companies were added to the customer base.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently met with U.S. President Barack Obama to address the barriers that have arisen for tourists and businesses wishing to crossing the U.S.-Canada border. During a televised news conference, the two world leaders outlined ways travel and trade could be both eased and encouraged in the near future, whether by land, rail or air. Events earlier this year proved just how tenuous travelers' freedom to cross the U.S.-Canada border can be.
We live in an era of fast technological change: self-driving cars, drones, artificial intelligence.
Yet the tube-shaped subsonic airliners we keep flying on wouldn't look out of place in the 1960s.
Take, for example, the Boeing 737.
A 50-year-old design that remains one of the workhorses of the airline industry.
And going strong: Its latest iteration, the Boeing 737 MAX is expected to enter service next year.
