StandardAero has completed a major wave of investment and expansion for its aerospace component repair capabilities at the company's facilities located in Winnipeg, Canada and Cincinnati, Ohio.
The company's Winnipeg facility has opened a state-of-the-art plating cell with chrome, nickel, cadmium, silver, tin and copper capabilities. This expands on other extensive component repair capabilities including platinum aluminide coatings, fluoride ion cleaning, cold metal transfer and laser welding, cladding and drilling.
Minneapolis-based financial firm Norwest Equity Partners has made a "significant investment" in East Alton, Illinois-based business aviation MRO West Star Aviation. The transaction was completed on Thursday and announced.
"On behalf of the entire West Star team, we are confident that our new partnership with NEP will help us successfully achieve our next level of growth," said West Star Aviation CEO Robert Rasberry.
On the eve of an FAA public hearing in College Park, Georgia, on the Part 23 notice of proposed rulemaking, a coalition of general aviation leaders today applauded the FAA's efforts to improve safety and make it easier to bring new products to market for the light general aviation sector, while strongly encouraging the agency to finish its work on the issue by the end of 2016.
Jet Aviation St. Louis has signed a contract to perform a 120-month inspection on a Bombardier Global Express XRS, the company told AIN. It is the MRO's 35th such inspection for the Global series.
"We're about to perform our 35th Global 120-month inspection to date, with even more on the books," said sales director Aaron Kreissler.
Four volunteers attached a nameplate to the Wichita-built B-29 Bomber known as "Doc," one of the last steps to achieving its Federal Aviation Administration airworthiness certificate.
The volunteers — Ervin Berger, Connie Palacioz, Loretta Shark and Dan Wimberly — were some of the earliest volunteers on the effort to restore the World War II airplane to flying condition.
The solar-powered Si2 completed its second longest overwater flight, from Hawaii to California, recently as part of its round-the-world trip.
Flying had the chance to catch up with the Solar Impulse team at Moffett Federal Airfield in Mountain View, California, where the Si2 landed after the final Pacific leg of its journey.
Check out these photos taken after the solar-powered airplane's first landing in the mainland United States.

His love of flying might make it seem Ed Dalbec has his head in the clouds. His friends will tell you, though, he is a rock-solid guy whose heart is in Cloverdale, California, and whose feet are planted firmly on the ground.
He first started flying in 1972. His dad and he went in as partners to purchase his first plane, a Cessna 140.
Retired at 55 from United Airlines, where he had been an airplane mechanic for many years, 71-year-old Dalbec says he enjoys flying because it is fun to take people places.

Several months ago, my friend Paul McBride wrote about the proper way to check the oil level in your aircraft engine. I have received several questions about not only how to check your oil, but also at what oil level to operate a certified aircraft engine.
Now at first, that may seem like a dumb question, but in reality, it is a very good question.
When an aircraft engine is certified, determining the crankcase capacity is a relatively complex process.
Gyroplane pilot Paul Salmon's flight this week from Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to Longview, Texas, and back will win a new distance record for his aircraft class. Salmon completed the closed-circuit flight in his Magni M22 Voyager, making 770 nautical miles in 10 hours and 37 minutes nonstop. The National Aeronautic Association, the sanctioning body for U.S. achievements, will make it official and forward the time to the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale to set the record for gyroplanes in the 500-1000 kilogram takeoff weight range (1102-2204 pounds).
