Construction of a $41 million jet repair hub at Chicago Rockford International Airport is "on schedule and under budget."
That's what Mike Dunn, executive director of the airport, said when he led a tour of the property for members of the Register Star's Editorial Board. The facility is expected to create 500 jobs within a year — and another 500 jobs within two or three years — that pay an average of $55,000 annually.

In the world of female pilots, the name Amelia Earhart is not spoken lightly. And for those in the know, the name of aerobatic pilot Vicki Cruse has its own particular resonance.
Recently, both of these famous women were mentioned in the same breath, as 28-year-old Cocolalla resident Amber Phillips was awarded the Vicki Cruse Memorial Scholarship through the Amelia Earhart Scholarship Fund.
The Pilatus PC-24 made its full public debut at a recent EBACE show when the Swiss manufacturer's first prototype took a 24-hour break from an intensive flight test program to take a starring role on the static display. With just over 500 flight hours logged by two prototypes, and with a third due to join the campaign towards the end of 2016, the highly versatile mid-light twinjet is not quite a quarter of the way towards completing type certification, scheduled for around the end of 2017.

A 40-year-old Beechcraft that took off and crashed May 10 about 600 yards from the end of the runway at California's Pine Mountain Lake Airport had not been maintained, operated or flown in at least five years, and possibly 10 years or more, until pre-flight maintenance was conducted before it crashed, according to a preliminary report released.

The dawn of cinema occurred just about the same time man first took flight, so it's no wonder airplanes and aviators have been a common theme throughout film history. Some of the best aviation films recount important historical events; some celebrate the achievements of innovators in aviation. Others we can always count on to give us a good laugh.
Here are our picks for the best films ever made about aviation.

Lately, I have received a number of questions concerning grounding or bonding an aircraft during the refueling process.
The reason for using a bonding strap during refueling is that when an electrically, non-conductive fluid like Jet A or 100LL is transferred, these liquids build up static electricity that can arc and cause a fire if not dissipated.
This is like how your body can build up static electricity when you walk across a carpeted floor and then arc when you touch a grounded item.
