White House set to nominate next FAA administrator, former city transit Exec Phil Washington

The White House is set within days to announce Phil Washington, CEO of Denver International Airport, as its nominee to be the next FAA administrator, according to two people familiar with the deliberations.
Because the nominee will face U.S. Senate confirmation hearings, the nomination is politically sensitive and closely held. It will not be final until the Biden administration makes a formal announcement, expected this week or early next week.
Washington's aviation experience is relatively light.

Rolls-Royce's engine Mx program reaches milestone

Rolls-Royce has signed the 1,000th CorporateCare Enhanced engine maintenance program contract since its initiation in 2019. The program covers a wide range of additional service items for the company's AE3007 and Tay engines such as troubleshooting and mobile repair team travel costs.

Study shows normal lead levels in soil at airport that banned sale of 100LL

A story in the San Jose Mercury News reports that soil samples taken at Reid-Hillview Airport (KRHV) in San Jose, California, did not contain lead levels that exceed local, state, or federal standards.
The soil study, commissioned by Santa Clara County, follows an airborne lead study concluded in August 2021 that found that children who live around the airport had elevated levels of lead in their blood.

Otto reveals plan for hydrogen-powered 19-seat Celera

Otto Aviation has confirmed plans for a 19-seat, hydrogen-powered version of its Celera aircraft that could be operated on flights of up to 1,000 nm. The Celera 750L is a stretched version of the 500L that the U.S. company has in development. It announced today that ZeroAvia will integrate its ZA600 hydrogen-electric powertrain as an alternative propulsion system to the Red A03 diesel engine being used for the 500L.

Aero Center opens the second FBO at KILM

North Carolina's Wilmington International Airport (KILM) now has two FBOs with the opening yesterday of Aero Center Wilmington. Located north of the Taxiway Alpha and Hotel intersection, near the U.S. Customs facility, the newly-constructed facility includes an 11,000-sq-ft terminal, 15,000-sq-ft and 10,000-sq-ft hangars capable of sheltering the latest ultra-long-range business jets, 50,000-gallon capacity fuel farm, and more than two acres of ramp.

Jefferies: Prices jump, bizjet backlogs push into 2025

Business aviation OEM backlogs are now extending at least through 2023 and in most cases into 2024 and 2025, according to Jefferies. The analyst reported on the OEM backlogs after hosting the third annual Jefferies Business Aviation Summit last week, bringing together industry leaders from the manufacturing, brokerage, charter, MRO, and other segments.
