Flight Safety Detectives Episode 121: Air crash not an accident
PAMA
Some air crashes are not really accidents. Todd and John characterize the focus of this week's episode an event where a perfectly good airplane was destroyed.
"Some pilots have more money than brains, and this seems to be a case of that" John says.
The 2021 air crash event involved a Cessna Citation flown by a single pilot. Although the pilot had experience in aviation, he had been denied a type rating for the plane and single pilot authorization by an Arizona flight school.

Supply chain struggles put the squeeze on
AviationPros
The lingering effects of the pandemic continuing to be felt on the supply chain, affecting parts and aftermarket availability. These struggles are causing ripples across the industry, with trends quickly folding and unfolding as time moves on.
In the teardown market, Ben Hockenberg, president of JSSI Parts and Leasing, said growth has slowed due to in-service aircraft price increases, making it more difficult to justify the business case for teardowns.

The dos and don'ts of communication system maintenance
AviationPros
Safety is paramount in aviation and being able to successfully communicate is one of its cornerstones. It's why successfully maintained pilot and cabin communication systems are as critical as they can be complex.
"They use them so much that if they're not working properly, they're going to get flagged immediately. If it's not the air traffic controller telling them, "Hey, look, I cannot hear you," or the pilot saying, "I can't hear you. You're coming in weak and garbled," and things of that nature. So you pretty much can't get away with it, because that's your only voice to the ground, is communication," said John Holland, general manager, Trimec Aviation.
