EPA opens comment period for aircraft emissions rules
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is accepting comments through Aug. 31 and is planning a public hearing on Aug. 11 on its combined proposed rule and advance notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) that would find greenhouse gas emissions from certain aircraft engines endanger public health and seek input on setting emissions standards. Though the EPA released the ANPRM earlier in June, it formally published the combined proposal and ANPRM recently in the Federal Register and thus opened the public comment period.

The leg — the eighth of a planned 13 — set a record for the world's longest nonstop solo flight in terms of time.

Video: Amazing river bar landing
This video definitely fits into the "don't try this at home" category, unless, of course, you are a highly experienced bush pilot. The pilot managed to land and take off from a postage stamp gravel island in the middle of a river in Alaska, using water assisted landing technique. The airplane touched down in the water a few feet before the island with what appear to be 29-inch tundra tires and came to a stop right in the middle of the small gravel bar.
