Pentagon issues $1.5 billion worth of contracts

The Department of Defense recently awarded 19 contracts, which added up to just under $1.5 billion in total value. The largest award went to a private company to pay for "full line food distribution" in Okinawa, Hawaii. But even so, there were a few contracts worth noting, going to publicly traded companies.

UTC Aerospace Systems, ST Aerospace sign long-term agreement for maintenance, repair and overhaul of Boeing 787 Dreamliner nacelle systems

UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., has signed a long-term agreement with Singapore Technologies Aerospace Ltd. to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul services on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner nacelle systems for both the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and General Electric GEnx engines.

NTSB arrives to investigate deadly Alaska plane crash

A special team from the National Transportation Safety Board Washington, D.C., headquarters was en route to Alaska recently to launch its investigation into an airplane crash at the Soldotna Municipal Airport that left 10 people dead. It was one of Alaska's deadliest aviation accidents in the last quarter-century.
