U.S. airlines await critical aid deal
VOA News
Losses are mounting for the U.S. airline industry as the coronavirus pandemic continues to wreak havoc on the economy and hope dims for an immediate government aid package.
Karl Moore, associate professor at Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University, says, “We're looking at flights being down in the area of 90% less in March and April than they were the year before. So, it's a time of enormous crisis. And there are hundreds of thousands of people who work in the airline industry.”

Airlines experiment with new routes in 'game of musical chairs' to stem billions in pandemic losses
CNBC
Airlines spent the first few weeks of the coronavirus pandemic slashing routes and parking hundreds of planes to cut costs as passenger numbers fell to the lowest levels since the 1950s.
U.S. airlines are now launching new routes, hoping they can turn a recent rebound in air travel into desperately needed revenue after losses topped $20 billion this year. Some airlines are moving into some of what are normally a few of the country’s most congested airports, hoping to make inroads as air traffic is relatively low.

3Q 2020 saw a new low in airliner orders and deliveries
AIN Online
The number of commercial airliner orders logged during the third quarter of 2020 was the lowest on record, according to data released recently by the UK aerospace trade group ADS. Just 13 new orders were placed, representing a 91.4% dip compared with the same period in 2019, as airlines continue to scale back capacity in the face of further fall in passenger bookings triggered by the second wave of COVID-19 infections in many parts of Europe and other regions.

FAA still searching for solutions on interface between drone remote ID and low-altitude pilots
Vertical Magazine
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is seeking ideas for how pilots operating in low-altitude airspace — where drones typically are flown — can benefit from remote identification information to improve situational awareness and reduce the risk of collisions.
The agency’s proposed rulemaking for remote ID, which will require most drones to broadcast their location and identification while flying, was released last December, with plans to issue a final rule by the end of the year.
