The NTSB database has just 74 events involving suicide and the focus of this discussion is the only one that involves a passenger rather than a pilot. The event took place in 2000, when a passenger on a Twin Otter plane intentionally opened the emergency exit door in flight.

Piper wins unpaved approval for M600s

Piper Aircraft has been awarded FAA approval for its flagship airplane — the Piper M600/SLS single engine turboprop — to be operated from unpaved fields.
Piper officials say they have received numerous requests for unpaved field certification from customers around the world, noting that the approval has also been awarded in Canada, the UK, and Europe. Brazil certification is expected in early 2023, they added.

The preowned Gulfstream specialist said many potential buyers in the U.S. are rushing to take advantage of 100 percent bonus depreciation before it drops to 80 percent in 2023.

NetJets breaks ground on Arizona Mx, passenger facility

NetJets broke ground yesterday on a maintenance and customer facility in Scottsdale, Arizona, one of the top destinations for the company's fractional aircraft shareowners. The "exclusive-use" facility — expected to open in first-quarter 2024 — will include a private boarding lounge and ramp space, as well as serve as one of the company’s more than 10 maintenance hubs that support NetJets's fleet of more than 850 business jets.

Pratt & Whitney advances combustor technologies with NASA HyTEC project

Pratt & Whitney was selected by NASA to develop advanced engine technologies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions for next generation single-aisle aircraft. The Hybrid Thermally Efficient Core (HyTEC) project is part of NASA's Sustainable Flight National Partnership, which will enable breakthrough innovations in support of the aviation industry's goal to significantly reduce CO2 emissions by 2050.
